EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. – A 33-year-old woman, Brandy Cheek, has been arrested following an investigation into motor vehicle and identity theft, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were conducting a patrol check at the Econo Lodge Hotel on the 6000 block of Panamint Court—near Highway 24 and Peterson Boulevard—when they discovered an unoccupied black Chevrolet Silverado with fake license plates.

Upon investigation, they found the truck had been reported stolen in March. A search of the vehicle revealed mail, checks, and documents addressed to “Brandy Cheeks,” as well as blank checks and checks made out to various people and businesses.

Hotel staff then directed deputies to Brandy Cheek, who was found in a hotel room with the keys to the stolen vehicle and .57 grams of methamphetamine in her possession.

Cheek was arrested and charged with:

Forgery

Identity theft

Second-degree motor vehicle theft

Unlawful possession of a controlled substance

An active felony warrant for identity theft

She was booked into the El Paso County Jail, but as of Thursday afternoon, she has been released on bond.
