CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Authorities have arrested Brandon Tedder, a man suspected of stealing more than $100,000 worth of copper wire in a string of thefts across Corpus Christi and Robstown.
Tedder was taken into custody Tuesday by the Corpus Christi branch of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to a Facebook post from the Robstown Police Department. The department thanked the Marshals for their dedication, stating their work in apprehending fugitives is “second to none.”
Tedder is currently charged with two felony counts of theft in Robstown, but Police Chief Mike Tamez confirmed additional charges are pending, and other law enforcement agencies may file separate cases.
According to Detective Sgt. Rene Garcia of the Robstown PD, the thefts involved individuals cutting fences, stripping copper wiring, and fleeing the scene before police could arrive.
“They are taking the copper wiring, casing, and selling it on the side for profit,” Garcia said. Authorities have been tracking the suspects as they targeted any location with accessible copper.
Local media had previously reported on the ongoing search for Tedder, who is believed to be a key figure in the theft ring.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests and charges may follow.
