Bolangir district police have apprehended a domestic worker accused of stealing gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh and Rs 40,000 in cash from the residence of Nasima Tamsum in Ashrampada, Kantabanji town.
The accused, Madhuri Podh, a resident of Tengara village under Muribahal police limits, had been employed at Nasima’s home for several months. Just before the Nuakhai festival, Nasima reported the theft of 230 grams of gold and Rs 40,000 in cash to Kantabanji police, suspecting Madhuri’s involvement.
During the investigation, police recovered several stolen gold items from Madhuri’s residence, including two necklaces, one chain, and two bangles. Further inquiries revealed that Madhuri had exchanged the stolen gold at multiple jewelry shops to acquire other ornaments. The shopkeepers involved have been summoned for questioning.
Station Officer Rashmita Behera confirmed that a case has been registered under IPC Section 312. Madhuri was produced in court, and her bail plea was rejected, resulting in her remand to judicial custody.
