Bokaro, Jharkhand: Three interstate cybercriminals have been apprehended in connection with an ATM fraud in Bokaro, where Rs 3.87 lakh was stolen from the bank account of Md Murtaza Ansari. Police also seized two mobile phones used in the scam.
The accused have been identified as Laxman Kumar of Purana Nagar, Koderma; Suraj Sharma of Koderma Bazaar, Koderma; and Shashi Shekhar of Dhanakal Barasali Ganj, Bihar. They have been sent to judicial custody.
According to SP Harvinder Singh, the incident occurred on June 22 around 6:40 pm when Md Murtaza Ansari visited the Bank of India ATM at Siwandih. His ATM card got stuck after the first transaction. A mobile number written on the ATM prompted him to call for assistance. The caller instructed him to enter his PIN and visit the Bansgoda SBI ATM, leading to fraudulent withdrawals totaling Rs 3,87,999.
Investigation revealed that the mobile number belonged to Laxman Kumar, who handed over the passbook and ATM card to Suraj Sharma, who then passed it to Shashi Shekhar in Bihar.
Police have issued a warning to citizens to exercise caution while using ATMs and not to share PINs or card details with unknown callers.
