In a decisive blow to the drug trade in Assam, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested two individuals during coordinated raids at 14th Mile Jorabat and Tamulikuchi under Basistha Police Station on January 9.

The arrested suspects, Blestar Sylliang (26), alias Dang, and Shahid Marbaniang (25), alias Pai, were apprehended with 21 vials of suspected heroin weighing 27.73 grams, Rs22,775 in cash, 14 stolen mobile phones, an additional handset, 10 empty vials, and 21 syringes.

STF officials revealed that both locations were notorious hotspots for drug peddling, and the operation was launched following credible intelligence. The seizure of drug paraphernalia and stolen items indicates deep links to organized crime networks.

“This operation has disrupted a major node in the local drug distribution system,” an STF spokesperson said. Further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify associates across the state and beyond.

Legal proceedings are ongoing, with authorities committed to dismantling the wider network involved in narcotics and associated theft cases.
