Doimukh Police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested Biren Nayak, a 33-year-old man from Dhekiajulia, Assam’s Lakhimpur district, for attempting to defraud a local shopkeeper using a fake PhonePe payment app.

On January 6, Nayak visited a grocery store in Gumto village and claimed to have made an online payment of Rs. 5,000 through PhonePe. However, the shopkeeper grew suspicious when Nayak returned shortly afterward, demanding an additional Rs. 5,000.

Upon reviewing his bank account, the shopkeeper realized no payment had been received. Further investigation revealed that Nayak had used a counterfeit PhonePe app to trick the shopkeeper.

The Doimukh Police, with the help of personnel from the Gumto Check Gate, apprehended Nayak and took him into custody. SDPO Radhe Obing urged the public to stay alert against such fraudulent activities and immediately report suspicious actions to the authorities.
