In a joint operation at Agartala Railway Station, security forces apprehended two individuals in separate cases involving illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
In the first case, a Bangladeshi national, Biplab Das, was arrested by a team comprising the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Intelligence Division. Das, a resident of Sunamganj district, Bangladesh, was reportedly attempting to travel to Delhi after illegally entering India.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Agartala GRP, confirmed that the arrest followed a tip-off. During initial questioning, Biplab Das confessed his intention to move deeper into Indian territory. Authorities believe he might be part of a broader network, and further arrests are expected.
In a separate operation at the same location, police arrested Bishal Natya Das (23), a resident of Surendra Nagar, Gomati district, Tripura. He was caught carrying 2.055 kg of dry ganja concealed in his backpack, allegedly intended for smuggling to Assam by train.
During interrogation, Bishal stated that the contraband could fetch approximately Rs 25,000 in Assam’s illegal market. The authorities are now investigating potential links to a larger smuggling ring.
Both individuals have been remanded for further questioning, and legal proceedings are underway.
