A Florida man was arrested after attempting to cash a fraudulent $5,000 check at a bank in Macomb County, Michigan.

Shelby Township police responded around 5:15 p.m. on May 29 following reports from employees at Fifth Third Bank, located at 54985 Van Dyke Road, who noticed inconsistencies with the check.

Upon arrival, officers found the suspect refusing to speak and trying to leave the scene. He was arrested and taken to the police station. During custody, officers discovered fraudulent identification and counterfeit credit cards on the man.

The suspect was identified as Billy Pierre, 21, of Homestead, Florida. He faced arraignment May 30 at 41-A District Court on charges of uttering and publishing and state ID counterfeiting—both related to forging and using false identification. Bond was set at $200,000 cash or surety.

Shelby Township Police Chief Robert J. Shelide stressed that financial crimes will not be tolerated in the community. “If you think you can walk into our community and steal from hardworking people, think again. We’re watching, we’re vigilant, and we’re holding you accountable,” he said.
