MARTINSVILLE, Va. (BTW21) — A high-speed police pursuit late Tuesday night ended safely with the arrest of Billy Myers, 37, of Mayodan, North Carolina, after he lost control of his vehicle on U.S. 220.

According to police, an officer conducting radar enforcement in the northbound lanes of U.S. 220 near the former National Business College clocked a white Nissan traveling at 63 mph in a 35 mph zone.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated and fled southbound on Memorial Boulevard, reaching speeds in excess of 80 mph.

The pursuit concluded near the Fas Mart on South Memorial Boulevard when Myers lost control of the vehicle, spinning 360 degrees in the roadway. He then pulled over voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported during the chase. Police say the investigation is still ongoing, and charges are pending.
