by Ananya Mehta

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bibhas Chandra Adhikari has been arrested in Noida for allegedly operating a fake police station and extorting money by impersonating government officials.

Adhikari, previously the TMC Block President in Nalhati, Birbhum, was detained along with his son and four others on Saturday night from Sector 70, Noida. They were allegedly running an unauthorized entity named the International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau (IPCIB).

According to police, the group presented themselves as law enforcement officials, conducting fake raids and threatening individuals with fabricated charges to extract money.

Investigations also revealed that Adhikari had operated a similar set-up in Kolkata, suggesting a broader pattern of impersonation and fraud.

He was previously under the scanner of the CBI and ED for alleged involvement in the West Bengal teachers’ recruitment scam, but no formal charges had been filed before this arrest.

Further inquiries are ongoing, and authorities are probing how widespread the scam might have been.
