Bhopal Police have arrested two individuals, including a former manager, in connection with a Rs3 lakh theft at a cinema located in Peoples’ Mall. The accused, identified as Sunil Rathore (30) and Akhtar Khan (45), were apprehended with stolen cash and other items, the Nishatpura police confirmed on Monday.

Rathore, who had previously worked as the manager of the cinema, used his inside knowledge of the mall’s security and cash handling systems to commit the theft. Facing financial difficulties and unemployment, Rathore enlisted the help of his friend Akhtar Khan to execute the crime. The theft took place in the early hours of December 30 last year.

Sunil Suryavanshi, the general manager of the cinema, reported the incident after being alerted by the mall’s security head. Upon inspection, Suryavanshi discovered a broken window, a ransacked office, and missing cash, mobile phones, and a DVR containing crucial CCTV footage.

Under the guidance of Nishatpura Police Station in-charge Rupesh Dubey, a police team reviewed over 60 CCTV recordings and received a tip-off that led them to the suspects. Rathore and Khan were found in the Chhola Mandir area and arrested near Dussehra Ground following a brief chase. During questioning, both suspects admitted to their involvement, with Rathore revealing how he exploited his previous role at the cinema to carry out the crime. The stolen cash was recovered, and the accused were presented in court
