The Crime Branch of Bhopal on Saturday arrested two women involved in illegal drug trafficking and seized 5.1 kg of ganja (cannabis) worth around Rs1.5 lakh from their possession. Officials said the women had been purchasing ganja at low prices and selling it at higher margins in the Chhola and Nishatpura localities.
Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan stated that a team had been deployed to track drug traffickers operating in the city. During the operation, a reliable informer alerted the team about two women waiting near a private bank ground in MP Nagar Zone-1 with plastic bags containing ganja.
The Crime Branch team rushed to the location and identified two women matching the description. They were swiftly surrounded and detained.
Upon questioning, the accused identified themselves as Sita (45) and Sauda Bai (50), both residents of Arjun Nagar slum in Obedullaganj, Raisen district.
A search revealed three packets of ganja weighing 2.6 kg from Sita and two packets weighing 2.4 kg from Sauda Bai, bringing the total seizure to 5.1 kg. The contraband was confiscated following due procedure.
Both women have been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace their supplier network and other possible links in the illegal trade.
