A 40-year-old man, Bhanu Chauhan, was allegedly beaten to death by his wife and parents-in-law at Tarajunga village under Bhatli police limits on Wednesday.
Bhanu Chauhan, a native of Usrat village in neighboring Chhattisgarh, had married Sunita (27) from Tarajunga. It was the second marriage for both. Sunita had reportedly been living with her parents for the past year.
On Wednesday, Bhanu visited his in-laws’ home to take his wife back. However, an argument broke out soon after his arrival. The situation escalated when Sunita, along with her mother Kakia Kalyani (45) and father Gajanan Kalyani (55), allegedly assaulted Bhanu and locked him inside a room.
Villagers alerted the Bhatli police, who arrived at the scene and rescued Bhanu in critical condition. He was initially taken to Bargarh district headquarters hospital and later transferred to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. Despite medical efforts, Bhanu succumbed to his injuries.
Bhatli police station IIC Bibhuti Bhusan Dalai confirmed that a case was registered and all three accused were arrested and presented before the court. The police are still investigating the motive behind the deadly altercation.
