A Sanford woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of methadone from a local nursing facility, the Aberdeen Police Department reported.
Officers responded to Dahlia Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on March 4 after a discrepancy in the methadone inventory was discovered. Through record reviews and staff interviews, investigators identified 47-year-old Betty Sanderford of Sanford as a suspect.
Police said Sanderford stopped reporting to work following the incident, and initial attempts to locate her were unsuccessful. A warrant for felony larceny by an employee was issued on March 18.
After months of investigation, authorities located Sanderford in Sanford on October 9 and took her into custody. She was brought before a Moore County magistrate and released on a written promise to appear in court.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
