ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A former employee of the Gildan facility in Mayodan is facing serious charges after allegedly sending threatening messages and verbally threatening current staff members.
Authorities say Benny William Corum Jr., 42, was arrested at his residence on June 5, 2025, by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest follows a pair of incidents earlier in the week that prompted a criminal investigation.
According to investigators, on June 3, Corum sent threatening text messages to a manager at Gildan’s location at 170 Shakey Road, where he had previously been employed. Then, on June 4, he reportedly made a verbal threat to a current employee of the facility.
Corum now faces two felony charges for making a false report concerning a destructive device. Although authorities confirmed that no actual explosive device was found, the threats were taken seriously and prompted immediate law enforcement action.
He is currently being held in Rockingham County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 12, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no further details about the threats have been released at this time.
