Ex-EMT and ex-cop accused of aiding child abuse suspect

by Amelia Crawford

DENTON, N.C. – A former Davidson County EMT and his wife, a former Brookford Police Department officer, have been arrested for allegedly interfering with a child sex abuse investigation, authorities said.

Benjamin Geoffrey Myers, 38, and Jennifer Aree Myers, 44, are accused of accessing government computer systems to obtain confidential information about the investigation into their friend Jeremy Amburn, the primary suspect in the case. Investigators say the couple used the information to warn Amburn, which allegedly resulted in the destruction of crucial evidence.

Both were arrested on September 26 and charged with:

Felony accessing government computers

Obstruction of justice

Benjamin Myers was held on a $1,500 bond, while Jennifer Myers received a $5,000 bond. Both have since bonded out. Court dates are set for December 1 and 2, respectively.

The Davidson County Magistrate has prohibited both individuals from having any contact with Jeremy Amburn, 43, or his wife Angela Amburn, 40.

The investigation began on August 25, following a report of child sexual abuse at a Denton residence. Authorities later arrested Jeremy Amburn on September 12, charging him with multiple felonies, including statutory sex offenses and indecent liberties with a minor. He remains in jail without bond.

Angela Amburn was charged with aiding and abetting and child abuse and was assigned a $75,000 secured bond.

As the investigation continues, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office says no additional details will be released due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Employment Status:

Jennifer Myers is no longer employed by the Brookford Police Department as of September 26. The department confirmed her charges were unrelated to her work duties.

Benjamin Myers’ employment with Davidson County EMS ended on September 29.

Both agencies have pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
