Ashanti Region, Ghana – Ghanaian police have arrested 44 Cameroonian nationals, including prime suspect Bella Merie, for their alleged involvement in internet fraud and human trafficking.
The arrests took place on Monday, April 7, at a residence in Kenyasi Abrem, following a coordinated operation. The suspects, aged between 22 and 38, were taken into custody for reportedly running a Q-NET-related scam, a known online fraud scheme.
A police statement issued on April 10 by DSP Godwin Ahianyo revealed that Bella Merie, 29, had deceived victims into traveling to Ghana with the promise of employment opportunities. Once in Ghana, however, they discovered the promises were false.
According to the police, Merie allegedly extorted approximately 4.5 million CFA Francs from the victims—32 men and 11 women—before their situation came to light.
The entire group has since been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigations and possible deportation to Cameroon.
Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious about online job offers and recruitment schemes, especially those linked to Q-NET, which has been flagged in multiple fraud-related investigations across West Africa.
