Bay City Man Tony McGillen Sentenced for Essexville Bank Robbery

McGillen gets 12+ years for armed robbery at Sunrise Family Credit Union

BAY CITY, Mich. — Tony McGillen, 45, has been sentenced to 152 months in federal prison for robbing a bank in Essexville.

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that McGillen held up the Sunrise Family Credit Union at gunpoint on April 9, 2024. He threatened several tellers during the robbery and stole $7,901.

Thanks to community tips, the FBI quickly identified McGillen and arrested him just two weeks after the crime.

McGillen pleaded guilty to charges of bank robbery and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Following the sentencing, he will serve more than 12 years behind bars.
