Guwahati police achieved a major breakthrough on Saturday night by arresting a four-member dacoity gang from Barpeta, Assam. Acting on credible intelligence, the EGPD team from Basistha Police Station conducted a late-night search at N.R. Residency in Sijubari, solving a multi-theft case spanning the city and nearby districts.

The Police Commissionerate confirmed on Sunday that the arrested dacoits were involved in a series of robberies targeting godowns, jewellery shops, and commercial establishments. The accused have been identified as Ainur Hussain (31), Edul Ali (24), Mahibul Ali (32), and Bipul Ahmed (38), all residents of Barpeta district.

During the operation, police recovered numerous stolen items, including two Exide batteries, a Maruti Suzuki Fronx (AS01-GG-3734) used as a getaway vehicle, and a set of crime tools like C-clamps, pliers, wrenches, and water pump pliers.

Interrogation revealed that the accused were involved in multiple thefts and break-ins, helping authorities link them to a broader criminal network. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and investigations are ongoing to trace additional associates and recover more stolen property.

The operation has been acknowledged by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state police, and DGP, highlighting the coordinated effort to curb organized crime in Assam.
