In a swift and efficient operation, the Cyber Police Station of Baran arrested Vikram Meena from Sikar district for allegedly cheating a woman doctor of Rs11.12 lakh through a Telegram-based online investment scam. The arrest took place just seven days after the complaint was lodged.
Under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Andasu, Vikram Meena (26), son of Krishna Meena from Mandeta village, was taken into custody. The victim, a lady doctor, received a message on September 25 from a Telegram user named “Shivani Tiwari,” who claimed to be an HR representative of Coinbase India Pvt Ltd.
Lured by a part-time business offer, the victim initially received Rs150 as a reward for completing a small task, building trust. She was then added to fake Telegram groups such as “VIP 306 Coin Task Release Group” and “Data Click Task 15000,” where she was urged to complete more tasks and invest money. Over time, she transferred Rs11,12,040.
When she attempted to withdraw her earnings, her account was blocked, and she realized the fraud. She filed a complaint on October 1 at the Baran Cyber Police Station with her father.
Led by Inspector Ashok Chaudhary and supervised by Additional SP Rajesh Chaudhary, the police traced the fraudulent transactions to Sikar district using bank records and CCTV footage. During the arrest, Rs2 lakh recovered from Vikram’s account was found to have been withdrawn and distributed to accomplices.
The police are actively investigating to apprehend other members of the fraud ring. This case underscores the rising danger of Telegram-based scams and the critical role of rapid cybercrime investigations.
