The Bapatla district police have successfully apprehended a gang involved in interstate motorcycle thefts and recovered 36 stolen motorcycles worth approximately Rs 25 lakh. The gang had been operating across several districts, including Bapatla, Guntur, Nellore, Prakasam, Kurnool, and Krishna, and even in Telangana. In total, 17 theft cases have been linked to this syndicate.
The breakthrough came after a recent motorcycle theft complaint was filed. Following SP Tushar Dudi’s directive to prioritize such cases, a special investigation team was formed. The team, led by Repalle DSP Avula Srinivasarao, Vemuru CI Pasupaleti Veeranjaneyulu, Repalle Rural CI Suresh Babu, and Bhattiprolu and Cherukupalli SIs Shivayya and Anil Kumar, used CCTV footage and technical surveillance to track down the suspects.
The police arrested the three individuals involved: Putta Sivasankar of Tenali, Peta Nagababu of Kanagala (Cherukupalli mandal), and Deepala Teja Venkata Siva Naga Vijay Kumar of Ailavaram (Bhattiprolu mandal). The main accused, Putta Sivasankar, worked as an auto driver but, driven by addiction and the desire for easy money, turned to stealing motorcycles. His method involved using duplicate keys to steal bikes from railway stations, bus stands, and movie theaters.
Repalle DSP Avula Srinivasarao credited the success of the operation to the technical expertise of the police team and their diligent investigation. The 36 recovered motorcycles, worth an estimated Rs 25 lakh, were seized and returned to their rightful owners. SP Tushar Dudi also commended the team for their outstanding work in bringing the interstate gang to justice.
