In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Begun Police of Chittorgarh district, Rajasthan, arrested Banwari Lal Yadav and seized nearly 700 kilograms of doda chura (opium husk) hidden under wheat chaff during a routine vehicle check on the Kota National Highway (NH-27) near Mainal.
The contraband, valued at over Rs1 crore in the illegal market, was found concealed in 29 plastic sacks beneath a layer of wheat husk in a pickup vehicle. According to Superintendent of Police Sudhir Joshi, the driver attempted to escape upon being flagged down but was intercepted after a brief chase.
The accused, Banwari Lal Yadav, hailing from Sreemadhopur in Sikar district, was arrested on the spot. He is currently being interrogated for further information about the drug supply chain and possible interstate smuggling links.
The seized vehicle and narcotic material have been taken into custody, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered.
Officials believe the massive quantity of opium husk was part of a larger distribution network. Investigations are ongoing to uncover other individuals involved in the racket.
