A Bangladeshi national, Niloy Ahmed Joy, has been arrested in Bangalore for allegedly masterminding a cross-border human trafficking network operating in Tripura and other northeastern states. A team of Tripura Police, including officials from the Crime Branch and Government Railway Police, tracked down Joy and brought him to Agartala after obtaining a transit remand from a Bangalore court.
The case came to light on January 19 when three Bangladeshi women were arrested. During the investigation, it was revealed that Niloy Ahmed Joy, originally from Dhaka, played a key role in the trafficking operation. Although he was residing in Bangalore, he had connections with border touts in both India and Bangladesh. Joy’s residence falls under the jurisdiction of Jatrabari Police Station in Dhaka.
Using mobile phone location technology, the police traced and apprehended Joy. Following his arrest, he was transported to Agartala for further investigation. Police officials are examining documents retrieved from Joy’s phone to identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network.
During the same investigation, a joint raid by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Government Railway Police led to the arrest of Khokan Das (30), another suspect, from his residence in the Kaiadhepa area.
Joy has been produced in court, where a request for a five-day police remand was made to continue the investigation.
