A man alleged to have stolen jewelry from several shops across Gujarat has been arrested by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in the city. The accused, Badshah Ali Saiyyad, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended after being spotted riding a motorcycle without a number plate in the Panigate area.
When the police flagged him down, Saiyyad attempted to flee. A chase ensued, and upon questioning, he could not provide satisfactory answers regarding his motorcycle. During a frisking, Rs 15,000 in cash was recovered from him, raising further suspicions.
In interrogation, Saiyyad confessed to committing several thefts in Gujarat. He admitted to stealing gold jewelry from a shop in the Khodiyarnagar area two months ago, as well as another theft from a jewelry shop in Dahod three months ago. Saiyyad also revealed that he had stolen jewelry from a showroom in Karjan two years ago.
Saiyyad carried out these thefts with the assistance of other members of his criminal gang. The gang would travel to Gujarat for a few days, posing as customers in jewelry shops, distracting the owners, and then stealing the jewelry. The stolen goods were later sold in Madhya Pradesh.
Additionally, Saiyyad is believed to have been involved in a robbery at a petrol pump in Mehsana and has a pending assault case in Madhya Pradesh.
Police have started investigating the full extent of his criminal activities and his gang’s operations. Saiyyad is now in police custody.
