Hyderabad, Telangana: The Cyberabad Police have arrested Badigere Ajith Kumar, a driver employed by Sangam Security Agency, for allegedly stealing around Rs 56 lakh from a cash transportation vehicle supplying ATMs in the Gachibowli area.

The accused was apprehended at RGI Airport, Shamshabad, while attempting to flee. Police recovered Rs 34.90 lakh from his possession.

According to reports, the theft occurred on February 12 when Kumar, exploiting a moment alone while colleagues were refilling an ATM, drove away the vehicle and misled his coworkers by claiming he was taking tea at a nearby hotel. He abandoned the vehicle at Gaddar Chowrasta, Nallagandla, removed the trunk box containing cash, and escaped in an auto-rickshaw.

Kumar reportedly stayed at a lodge in RTC Cross Roads, opened the cash box using an axe blade, and then traveled through Ananthapur, Bellari, Bengaluru, Pune, and other locations, evading multiple police teams. Interrogation revealed he spent part of the stolen funds on personal lavish expenses.

Three special police teams tracked his movements, ultimately leading to his arrest at the airport. Kumar has been remanded under relevant legal provisions, and authorities are also investigating Sangam Security Agency for negligence, under the Private Security Agencies Regulation Act (PSARA), 2005, for failing to maintain proper identity records of their driver.
