Muzaffarnagar Police have attached properties worth approximately Rs 80 crore belonging to alleged drug trafficker Babu alias Riaz alias Asfaq, officials said on Tuesday. The move is part of Operation Savera, a special campaign aimed at dismantling drug networks and seizing their financial assets.
Supervised by Saharanpur range DIG Abhishek Singh and Muzaffarnagar SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma, the operation follows Babu Riaz’s earlier arrest by Budhana police, during which a large quantity of heroin worth crores was recovered. Investigations revealed that he had amassed substantial illegal wealth through his drug trafficking network over the years.
A special team led by SP (Rural) Aditya Bansal conducted a detailed financial probe, uncovering properties registered in his name as well as in the names of relatives. On March 24, authorities issued orders to attach 34 properties, including agricultural land, residential plots, commercial buildings, brick kilns, showrooms, and vehicles, spread across Bareilly and Shahjahanpur districts.
Babu Riaz, a known history-sheeter, has multiple cases under the NDPS Act and other criminal charges across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. ADG Meerut Zone Bhanu Bhaskar stated, “No illegal property acquired through narcotics trade will be spared. We are committed to taking strict action against such criminals.”
Authorities continue to monitor the network to identify other associates and assets linked to the illegal narcotics trade.
