A 35-year-old man, identified as Babajan, has been arrested by Electronics City police for allegedly committing multiple house thefts in and around the city — often with the help of his 16-year-old son.
Babajan, who has three wives and nine children living separately in Srirangapatna, Anekal, and Chikkaballapura, lacked stable employment and turned to burglary eight years ago to support his large family.
In his latest crime, the duo targeted a home where the resident had gone to the terrace, leaving the door open. Babajan sent his son inside while he stood guard. Police say this method was common for him — he would watch for unlocked homes and use his son to enter and steal valuables quickly during the daytime.
Police tracked Babajan using CCTV footage and arrested him on May 13 from Mylasandra. During interrogation, he admitted to training his son and being involved in at least nine robberies.
Recovered Items:
188 grams of gold
550 grams of silver
A two-wheeler used in the crimes
The incident has sparked concern over the exploitation of children in criminal activities and highlighted the need for increased vigilance around home safety during the day.
Babajan has been remanded in judicial custody, while his son’s role is being evaluated under juvenile justice laws.
