Jackson, MS — Aziza Young, 35, was arrested on Monday, July 7, in connection with the fatal shooting of her boyfriend, Adrione Triggs, 45, on the Fourth of July.

Triggs was found shot Friday on AME Logan Street. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the victim’s family is “devastated” by the loss. Young was taken into custody by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department shortly after her attorney confirmed she was at her Natchez home.

Young faces murder charges as well as accusations of leaving the scene in Triggs’ white Honda Accord.

Chief Wade described the shooting as “very calculated,” noting investigators believe Young hid beside the house and shot Triggs when he walked outside following an argument. Witnesses also reported Young attempted to move the victim’s body by dragging it.

Young’s attorney, Ishmael Muhammad, said she called for an ambulance to give Triggs a chance to live and maintains that she was acting in self-defense.

“This is an unfortunate incident but it’s not one in which my client is responsible,” Muhammad said.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, with domestic violence believed to be the root cause of the tragic event.
