In a significant crackdown on mobile snatchers, the Ayodhya Nagar Police on Tuesday arrested two habitual criminals and recovered eight stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle worth a total of Rs 3.5 lakh. The operation was part of a larger effort, following directives from Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra, to take strict action against mobile thefts in the city.
The suspects were apprehended in connection with a mobile snatching case reported by Aditya Raj Soni, a 22-year-old resident of Bhawani Town, on February 26. According to the complaint, two men on a motorcycle snatched his mobile phone near Yashoda Palace and fled the scene.
After the complaint, the Ayodhya Nagar Police set up a special team to track down the snatchers. By using CCTV footage, technical analysis, and ground intelligence, they identified the accused as Abhishek Chauhan (20) and Shabban (19), both residents of Arjun Nagar near Maida Mill in MP Nagar.
Abhishek Chauhan was found to have a criminal record with more than nine cases, including theft and assault, while Shabban is also known to have a criminal background. The police seized the stolen mobile phones and the bike used in the crime from the duo, who are now under investigation for their involvement in other snatching cases across the city.
