Coimbatore City Police have arrested R Ayub Khan, a 35-year-old autorickshaw driver from Sugunapuram, in connection with a series of burglaries at the TNHB housing unit in Kavundampalayam. Khan assisted three suspects from Uttar Pradesh by transporting stolen jewels, cash, and silver in his autorickshaw.
Police stated that Khan rented his vehicle to the gang for Rs 2,000 per day. He was aware of the suspects’ intentions but still drove the stolen valuables from Kavundampalayam to Kulathupalayam near Kuniyamuthur. He was booked under sections 331(3) (house trespass) and 305 (theft in transport) and remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, one of the prime suspects, Asif (45), was shot in the leg by police and succumbed to injuries at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. His postmortem was conducted in the presence of the VIII Judicial Magistrate R Sakthi Manjari, and the body was later handed over to relatives for transport to Ghazipur.
