Auburn Men Arrested in Port Byron Bank Robbery: Malone & Millhoff

Weldon Malone Jr. and Brandon Millhoff face felony charges

by Sophia Bennett

Two men have been arrested in connection with the bank robbery that occurred earlier this week in Port Byron, New York. Weldon R. Malone Jr., 58, of Auburn, and Brandon C. Millhoff, 48, of Auburn, were charged with third-degree robbery (Class D felony) and fourth-degree grand larceny (Class E felony) after allegedly robbing the Savannah Bank on Main Street on Monday afternoon.

The investigation began shortly after the robbery, when state police reviewed surveillance footage and identified Malone as a suspect. Malone was arrested on Tuesday following a search of a Seneca Street residence. The investigation then led authorities to Millhoff, who was found at Dilaj’s Motor Inn in Sennett. When police located him, Millhoff attempted to hide and resisted arrest, which resulted in an additional Class A misdemeanor charge.

Both men were transported to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment. According to records from The Citizen, both suspects have lengthy criminal histories. Millhoff, in particular, had a run-in with law enforcement in 2018, when he led police on a high-speed chase through Cayuga County, striking three police vehicles and later being found with over 500 milligrams of cocaine. Millhoff pleaded guilty to 18 charges, including four felonies, and was sentenced to six months to seven years in prison in 2019.

State police did not release the amount of money stolen in the robbery, but previously reported that a male suspect entered the bank at 3:25 p.m. Monday, wearing a black cloth mask, gray jacket, gray pants, and blue gloves, and demanded money. Authorities were assisted by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and expressed their appreciation for the public’s assistance during the investigation.

Both suspects remain in custody while the investigation continues.
