In a significant fight against drugs, Assam police on Wednesday arrested a woman at Guwahati Railway Station and recovered 20,000 WY tablets valued at approximately Rs4-5 crore. The arrest was made following an operation based on intelligence received from reliable sources.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was intercepted at the railway station, where a thorough check led to the recovery of the illicit drugs, along with a mobile handset and Rs1,000 cash. The woman has been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to track down further links in the drug trafficking network.
In a similar operation earlier this year, Assam Police made another major drug seizure in Cachar district, confiscating 66,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of Rs20 crore. The raid, carried out in Raj Gobindpur under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station, targeted the residence of Md Dil Bahar, a 36-year-old man who was arrested. The tablets were found hidden within the false ceiling of the house.
These operations reflect Assam’s intensified efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking along the Assam-Mizoram border, as part of the state’s ongoing battle against narcotics.
