In a significant breakthrough, Noonmati police have arrested two women involved in a human trafficking network that sold young women from Assam to Rajasthan. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Popy Deka from Jorhat and 55-year-old Dashmi Devi from Bihar, were apprehended while residing in Datalpara under Fatasil Ambari police station jurisdiction.
During the raid, police recovered Rs 53,000 in cash, a gold necklace, train tickets, and three mobile phones from the suspects. Officials suspect the existence of a wider trafficking ring and have launched a large-scale operation to dismantle the network.
According to ADCP Amitabh Basumatary, preliminary investigations indicate the trafficking network lures women by promising fake job opportunities outside Assam and then forces them into immoral activities.
The Guwahati police are continuing their probe to identify and apprehend other members of this trafficking syndicate to prevent further exploitation.
