Assad Awan Arrested at JFK Airport on Sexual Assault Charges

Cumberland Restaurant Co-Owner Held Without Bail in RI

CUMBERLAND, R.I. — Assad Awan, 27, co-owner of Anis Pizza and Seafood in Cumberland, was arrested as he attempted to board an international flight at JFK International Airport.

The East Longmeadow, Massachusetts resident was taken into custody on July 11 by Port Authority police and later returned to Rhode Island by the Division of Sheriffs.

Awan faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree domestic sexual assault, two counts of domestic assault by strangulation, two counts of domestic simple assault and battery, and two counts of domestic disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned last weekend and is being held without bail at the ACI.
