In a significant operation, Tehsil Police registered a case against two individuals—Aslam Qureshi (55) and Bilal Ansari (27), both residents of Mominpura—for allegedly tying up 15 bovine animals in cruel conditions with the suspected intent of illegal slaughter.
The incident occurred on May 7 around 10:40 AM at Noorani Ground, Mominpura, when police, while patrolling, received a tip-off about the activity. A team immediately reached the spot and discovered the cattle tied without food or water, in unsanitary and distressing conditions.
The estimated value of the rescued cattle is around Rs1.8 lakh. The animals were promptly rescued and handed over to a local gaushala for safe care.
A case was registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and sections related to animal smuggling and illegal slaughter.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of DCP Mahak Swamy (Zone 3) and ACP Anita More (Kotwali Division). The field team included Senior PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, PSI Rameez Shaikh, PSI Surekha Sagar, and Constable Ramaji Thakur.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to uncover the broader network, if any, linked to the illegal transport and potential slaughter of animals.
