The Darrang police in Assam seized a significant quantity of suspected brown sugar during a raid on a residence in Ward No. 2, Mangaldai, early Thursday morning.
According to Inspector Chandan Jyoti Bora, Officer-in-Charge of Mangaldai police station, the operation was based on reliable intelligence. Undercover officers, posing as drug buyers, met with suspected peddlers before initiating a search operation at the home.
Police recovered approximately 40 grams of brown sugar, carefully packed in 27 plastic containers. In addition to the narcotics, they seized:
Rs62,000 in cash
Eight mobile phones
One tablet computer
The house belonged to Asiya Begum (45), who, according to police, had been engaged in drug peddling for a long time. She was arrested along with her associate, Anowar Hussain (25).
Both have been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to uncover the extent of their network.
