The Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a known drug peddler, Asif alias Achi, 32, from Subhash Nagar, Nagri, Bantwal Taluk, for allegedly transporting and selling MDMA—a synthetic party drug—between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
Acting on a credible tip-off, CCB officers conducted a raid near Nehru Maidan in the Mangaluru South police limits on Tuesday. Asif was caught red-handed while attempting to sell 27 grams of MDMA, valued at Rs1.3 lakh, to members of the public, including students.
Police also seized a mobile phone and a digital weighing scale from the accused, who reportedly travelled to Mangaluru by bus after sourcing the drug from Bengaluru.
Further investigation revealed that Asif is a repeat offender with a long history of drug-related crimes:
2018 – Suratkal
2021 – Vittal
2023 – Bantwal
The operation was conducted under the supervision of CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Naik and led by Inspector Rafiq KM. Authorities are continuing efforts to track down others linked to the drug supply network.
This arrest highlights the persistent drug trafficking routes between Bengaluru and coastal Karnataka, with students increasingly being targeted as potential customers.
