Moti Nagar police have arrested assistant sub inspector (ASI) Bua Singh, posted at Kailash Nagar police post, for allegedly killing 42-year-old Gurjinder Singh alias Gora. The man had gone missing on April 16, and his body was later found in a canal in Ropar.

Initially unidentified, Gurjinder’s body was cremated by Morinda police. However, following an FIR filed by his mother, Ranjeet Kaur, under wrongful confinement charges, the police added murder, criminal conspiracy, and Arms Act sections to the FIR and booked ASI Bua Singh and his aides, Bunty and Gagan.

According to Jeevan Kumar, a friend of the deceased, Gurjinder often drank with Bunty and sometimes with ASI Bua Singh. On April 16, Bunty took Gurjinder from his home, after which he disappeared. Police were alerted when friends shared that Gurjinder was shot dead at Bunty’s residence using the ASI’s weapon after an altercation during drinking.

Moti Nagar SHO Amritpal Singh said police are investigating whether the shooting was accidental or intentional. ASI Bua Singh was remanded to three days’ police custody, and the other accused are still being tracked. Forensic examination of the ASI’s car has also been conducted.
