Authorities have released new details regarding three intentionally set fires across Appomattox and Campbell counties, resulting in the arrest of Ashley Inesta.
Inesta, now facing multiple charges, is accused of two felony counts of arson related to fires in both counties, along with charges in Lynchburg concerning a stolen vehicle.
The first fire occurred in September 2024 at a residence in Campbell County. In November, Inesta allegedly set fire to her former home in Appomattox County. The latest fire, in January 2025, saw Inesta return to the initial Campbell County property, where she set a fence on fire.
According to warrants, Inesta admitted to using an apron and a lighter to start the flames.
Sheriff Robert Richardson of Appomattox County noted that initial observations on scene were suspicious, leading to further investigation. “Once on scene, there was some suspicious stuff that was there that seemed like there was more to it than just an accidental fire,” said Richardson.
Inesta’s actions were further linked to a stolen vehicle. Lynchburg Police had been investigating a vehicle theft earlier this month when they discovered the stolen car at Inesta’s residence. Evidence suggests she used the vehicle to travel to the Campbell County site to set the January fire.
Sheriff Richardson credited the successful resolution of the case to the collaboration between law enforcement agencies in Appomattox, Campbell County, and Lynchburg.
“Without that relationship, we probably would still be working on this case right now. We wouldn’t know what was going on in Campbell County,” Richardson said.
Inesta is facing charges across multiple jurisdictions, including felony arson and a misdemeanor theft charge. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
She is scheduled to appear in court next month in Lynchburg and Campbell County.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
