Columbus Couple Accused of Stealing and Selling Classic Car with Forged Paperwork
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the theft and illegal sale of a classic 1973 Nissan Datsun 240SX, which was reported stolen from a home near 17th Avenue in Columbus on July 23.
According to the Columbus Police Department, Ashley Herring and David Parr conspired to sell the stolen vehicle in Marietta using a forged Bill of Sale and the identity of Herring’s deceased mother. The vehicle reportedly belonged to the victim’s late father, making the crime even more personal and distressing.
Herring was initially arrested on July 24, and a forensic search of her phone revealed messages and documentation related to the fraudulent sale. The stolen car was recovered on August 4.
Although Herring was released on bond shortly after her first arrest, new charges and warrants led to her and Parr’s re-arrest on August 6. Both suspects were transported to the Muscogee County Jail.
During a Recorder’s Court hearing on August 13, the judge found probable cause to advance the case to Superior Court.
Police also noted that Herring has a criminal history, including past arrests for selling items on Facebook Marketplace that didn’t belong to her, suggesting a pattern of deceptive behavior.
Investigators believe this stolen vehicle incident may have been part of a broader scheme involving online sales of stolen goods.
