In a surprising case, 25-year-old Ashish Shrinivas Reddymalla, an MTech graduate and former software firm employee in MIHAN, was arrested by Dhantoli police for committing several housebreakings following a Rs15 lakh gambling loss. The Chandrapur resident was identified after police reviewed over 120 CCTV recordings.

Ashish is alleged to have carried out five burglaries across Nagpur—three in Dhantoli police limits, and one each in Sonegaon and Ajni areas. He also faces two additional cases in Chandrapur.

The probe began when Shital Naresh Chintalwar (24) filed a complaint reporting a break-in at her Vikas Nagar flat on June 8. While she and her family were away, Ashish reportedly broke into flat No. 201 and stole Rs22,000 in cash. A neighbor, Shyam Sapkal, spotted the theft and alerted the family.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Senior Police Inspector Anamika Mirzapure led a dedicated team, including officers Subhash Vasade, Yogesh Chambhare, Amol Lonkar, and others, to investigate.

With the help of CCTV footage and confidential tips, authorities traced Ashish to Chandrapur, where he was arrested. During questioning, he admitted to seven burglaries—five in Nagpur and two in Chandrapur.

Police recovered 32 grams of gold jewelry worth Rs1.92 lakh, Rs15,000 cash, a metal rod, 200 US dollars, and 100 euros from Ashish’s possession. Investigations are ongoing to determine if he is linked to other thefts.
