A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai’s Juhu area when a long-standing family feud over property escalated into violence. Ashish Raghunath Karandikar, 48, was arrested by Mumbai Police after he allegedly stabbed his sister, Navaya Kiran Paingankar, 45, to death during a heated argument over the division of family assets.
The incident took place in the Lallubhai Park locality, where the family resided in an old chawl building slated for redevelopment. Tensions had been mounting since the death of their father, which left unresolved issues regarding inheritance and property division. Although their mother is still alive, disputes between the siblings worsened in recent months.
On the day of the murder, a verbal altercation between Ashish and Navaya quickly turned violent. In a fit of rage, Ashish is reported to have attacked Navaya with a kitchen knife, inflicting fatal injuries. She died at the scene.
Mumbai Police responded swiftly after being alerted. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and Ashish Karandikar was taken into custody. He has been booked under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder. Further investigation is underway to determine the full scope of the case.
