A woman allegedly connected to a Facebook Marketplace scam that resulted in the murder of Mogamat Yusuf Daniels just a week before his wedding has been arrested.
Sources told the Daily Voice that 23-year-old Ashiekah Naidoo surrendered to authorities on Wednesday after police appealed to the public for help in locating her. She is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today.
Her arrest came only two days after the Daily Voice published a report asking readers to help trace her whereabouts. At the same time, her co-accused Morte Nelson appeared in court, where her bail application was postponed to 28 November.
According to Daniels’ family, Naidoo is believed to be the mastermind behind the deadly setup.
A third accused, Monray Martin, remains in hospital under police guard after being shot during the same incident.
All three suspects face murder charges linked to the death of 29-year-old Daniels on 24 September, after he was allegedly lured into a fake online sale. Daniels had planned to sell his phone to help pay for his upcoming wedding.
Two women had reportedly contacted him on Facebook Marketplace, expressing interest in buying the phone and arranging a meeting at a garage in Ottery. His uncle, Abduragman Jacobs, explained that Daniels initially went with his fiancée but later dropped her off and took his cousin and the cousin’s son along.
The meeting location was changed at the last minute when the women claimed they needed to stop at a shop instead of the original garage.
Following Naidoo’s arrest, Jacobs expressed relief:
“All praise to God. She was on the run for two months, and once she was in the media, there was no hiding. When I heard she was arrested, it was amazing news — a relief.”
He added that Naidoo had remained active on social media while evading authorities.
“Now we will hear all her excuses for what she has done,” he said.
