An SHO fired at a KAAPA case accused who tried to attack police officials with a machete in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. The accused, Kiran (27), alias Kylie, a native of Aryancode, escaped unharmed but was later apprehended at Kattakada.
The incident occurred around 9 am when Aryancode SHO Tanzi Abdul Samar and his team attempted to arrest Kiran, who had returned to the district to celebrate his birthday despite being previously deported. As police tried to enter his house, Kiran brandished a machete, narrowly missing the officers. The SHO fired through the window, breaking the glass, but Kiran escaped through the back door.
The night before, Kiran had celebrated his birthday on the road with friends, shouting slogans challenging the police. Locals informed authorities of his presence the next morning, prompting the police action. A case has been registered against him for assaulting police and violating KAAPA law. He is scheduled to be produced in Kattakada court on Friday after questioning.
Kiran is a repeat offender, accused in 10 cases including drugs, ganja possession, and assault across Kattakada, Maranallur, and Aryancode stations. He had served a sentence at Viyyur Central Jail in Kannur and was banned from entering the district on October 10 due to his repeated criminal activities.
