In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, the police in Nawanshahr registered nine cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act today. Eleven drug peddlers were arrested from different blocks, including Banga, Rahon, Balachaur, and Kathgarh, with 64 grams of heroin, as well as intoxicating tablets and capsules in their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Onkar Singh, Mayank Sharma, Jasvir Singh, Mukesh Bassi, Ankush Bassi, Tajvir Singh, Jasveer, Mohan Lal, Raj Kumar, Manish Kumar, and Ravinder Kumar. These individuals have been taken into custody following the seizure of illegal substances.

This action aligns with former Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal’s efforts to eliminate drugs from Punjab. Kejriwal had recently announced a state-wide war against drugs, specifically focusing on village and street levels, with strong support from local residents.

In a speech at Langroya, Nawanshahr, Kejriwal emphasized that the government had already dealt a severe blow to the drug trade, adding that the day when Punjab becomes completely drug-free is not far off. He reiterated that the Nasha Mukti Yatra would be visiting every village and town in the state, encouraging people to actively participate in this movement to ensure a brighter, drug-free future for Punjab.
