Three suspects have been arrested for allegedly stealing 603 flagship mobile phones worth Rs2.5 crore near the Sector 148 Metro station in Greater Noida on April 8, while being transported, according to the police. All the stolen phones have been recovered.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arvind Dubey (from Farrukhabad), Abhishek Chouhan (from Etah), and Simran Sethi (from New Delhi).
The incident unfolded when Jitendra Singh, the manager of a courier company, contacted the police on April 8. He reported that their truck driver, Arvind, was supposed to deliver a consignment of mobile phones from a stockyard in Malakpur, Greater Noida to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. However, around 2:30 AM, Singh was informed that the vehicle had been abandoned near Sector 148 Metro station.
Following Singh’s complaint, the police registered a case of theft under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and formed teams to investigate.
After conducting an investigation, the police arrested Arvind Dubey, the truck driver, and his accomplices Abhishek Chouhan and Simran Sethi on Monday. During questioning, Arvind revealed that he had planned the theft in collaboration with his friends.
Greater Noida’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sudhir Kumar, confirmed the recovery of all the stolen phones and added that Arvind had been hired by the courier company just four days before the heist.
The police also updated the First Information Report (FIR) by adding Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) and Section 317 (stolen property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the charges.
