In a major breakthrough in their fight against narcotics, Arunachal Pradesh Police successfully dismantled an interstate drug trafficking network operating in Chimpu, arresting two drug peddlers and seizing a substantial quantity of suspected heroin, cash, and a vehicle used in drug distribution.

The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Dawn, aimed at curbing drug abuse and trafficking, resulted in the seizure of 60.4 grams of suspected heroin, with an estimated street value of Rs 500,000. Along with the narcotics, the police also recovered Rs 40,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, and a two-wheeler used by the suspects for trafficking.

The operation was initiated based on credible intelligence inputs, with a police team led by SDPO Itanagar DySP Kengo Dirchi, OC PS Itanagar Vivek Maurya, OC PS Chimpu U. Vibu Krishna, SI Tamo Bakhang, and the Chimpu PS team conducting the raid on March 20, 2025.

Bikash Barman, a habitual drug peddler, was arrested first in Chimpu while attempting to sell heroin. Authorities recovered one packet of heroin and a two-wheeler used for trafficking from his possession. During questioning, Bikash Barman revealed that he was working under a local supplier, Junaki Boje, also known as “Didi”. Barman further disclosed that Junaki Boje was in possession of additional narcotics, prompting the police to raid her residence in Bidi Bida village, Zoo Road.

The raid at Junaki Boje’s house resulted in the recovery of four additional packets of heroin, weighing approximately 50 grams, as well as the seizure of Rs 40,000 in cash, suspected to be from drug sales.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the drug syndicate sourced heroin from Assam and neighboring states, distributing it across the Capital Region via a network of peddlers, including Bikash Barman. Authorities believe the syndicate played a major role in driving substance abuse among local youth.
