In a significant development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Arunachal Pradesh has arrested Takam Kechak, the East Kameng District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer (DLRSO), in connection with the multi-crore Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway compensation scam.
Kechak was among four officials suspended in November over alleged large-scale irregularities in compensation disbursements, including assessments of nonexistent assets and fraudulent evaluations. He is currently in police remand for six days as the investigation continues.
The ACB investigation reportedly involved document analysis, technical examinations, and extensive interrogations of persons connected to the case. Officials said the probe is ongoing, with all aspects of the Lada-Sarli Highway compensation funds being examined thoroughly.
The Lada-Sarli section, part of the Arunachal Frontier Highway (NH 913), is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity along the India-China border. Allegations of corruption in land compensation payments had sparked protests from local organisations, including the ANYA and the East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO), demanding accountability and re-verification of fund disbursements.
Reacting to the arrest, EKSWCO General Secretary Kasung Cheda praised the ACB for its prompt action and appreciated the state government for taking a strong stand against corruption. Cheda urged that all officials involved in the scam be held accountable and arrested immediately.
Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
