BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Birmingham man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on July 4, according to Birmingham Police.

Arthur Eugene Shackleford, 44, was identified as the suspect following an incident near the intersection of 3rd Avenue North and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd.

Police say the victim reported that while sitting inside his vehicle, a man approached him, brandished a firearm, and demanded his car keys and wallet. The suspect attempted to drive off but failed, eventually fleeing the scene on foot.

Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and were able to identify Shackleford as the alleged perpetrator.

On July 11, detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, which issued a first-degree robbery warrant for Shackleford.

At the time of the warrant, Shackleford was already in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on unrelated charges. He is now being held without bond in connection with the armed robbery.
