FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Two men have been arrested in connection with the June shooting that killed Beatrice Saintvil and her four-year-old daughter, Janelle Souffrant, on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County.
After more than six months of investigation, warrants were issued on Wednesday for Antoine Harris and Jaquan Thomas, both accused of first-degree murder. Harris was apprehended two days later in Miami Gardens and is awaiting extradition to Broward County, while Thomas was already in custody in Georgia, facing extradition as well.
The victims were discovered just before midnight on June 7 near the Hollywood Boulevard interchange. Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to reports of a shooting and found the mother and daughter still in their vehicle in the left breakdown lane. Both had been shot about 40 minutes prior to their discovery. Saintvil was rushed to the hospital, where she later died, while Souffrant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation, but details about the motive behind the shooting have not been released.
